Demystifying the Paris Metro & Navigo System
The RATP network is dense, efficient, and notoriously confusing for short-term visitors regarding ticket types. The traditional cardboard 't+ ticket' is being phased out, forcing visitors to understand the Navigo Easy pass.
The Navigo Easy Pass
This is a reusable plastic card (costing €2) that you can load with single tickets or carnets (packs of 10). It is not nominative, so you can share it, but not on the same journey (everyone needs their own card or ticket to pass the turnstiles).
| Ticket Type | Cost (2024) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single t+ (Paper) | €2.15 | Valid for Metro/RER within Zone 1 |
| Navigo Easy (10-pack) | €17.30 | Saves ~20% per ride |
| Navigo Semaine | €30 + €5 card | Monday-Sunday unlimited (All zones) |
Airport Transfers
The standard t+ ticket does not work for CDG or Orly airports. You must buy a specific point-to-point ticket for the RER B (to CDG) or OrlyVal.
